1- The Lifestyle

Bedouins are known in their free nomadic lifestyle, where they dwell in camps and each family has its own tent, the Bedouin tent has a very special look, you can distinguish a Bedouin tent by its black color with white stripes. They are known in raising animals, such as camels, sheep and goats.

2- Interesting things to know about Bedouins in Jordan: Traditional Dress

As Bedouins live in the desert, their traditional dress should protect them from the sun heat and other environment circumstances. Bedouin women wear long black dresses “madraga” sometimes decorated with colored embroidery, and a head piece “Osaba”.

On the other hand, Bedouin men also wear a long white or beige garment “thoub”, usually with long sleeves also, and a red and white head cover “kofeyyeh” .

3- Hospitality

Bedouins are known in their hospitality. In fact, their welcoming traditions is what most of the tourists come to experience. You might be surprised, but coffee is the most important face of their hospitality.

They will never ask the guest about their information or the reason of visiting for the first three days, as this is considered rude. They will not hesitate to share their home and meal with you as soon as you arrive.

Bedouin society’s values are rooted in an ancient code of honor that requires complete commitment to the clan and tribe in order to ensure the group’s existence.

As for them to survive and stay longer, they have non-changeable rules in their culture and no one can cross them, they have developed a variety of social systems to maintain social order, including banishment from the tribe and the paying of “blood money” or retribution to rectify a wrong.
